OUTDOOR EDUCATION SPECIALIST: A temporary, full-time position. Pay: $250 weekly plus Room, Board and Health Ins. Stipend. Dates: August 18 - December 5, 2008.

Qual: Applicants should have a Bachelors degree in Environmental Studies, Education, Parks and Recreation, Biological and Earth Sciences, or other related fields. Individuals must have a commitment to the environment, a strong love of children, an interest in adventure-based or experiential education, and well developed communication skills. Duties: Provide instruction for programs in environmental science and cultural history to elementary school students in the Environmental Education Program. Facilitate ground initiatives, team challenge course elements and high ropes activities with middle school students in the Soaring Thru Spaces Program. Provide leadership for GPS-based, outdoor science explorations with middle school students in Project O.R.I.E.N.T. Participate in logistical & preparatory duties for both day and residential outdoor education programs. Enhance the mental, physical, and social development of the students participating in the program by being a positive role model, a creative and energetic teammate and an excited leader. Participate in ongoing, extensive training programs that prepare staff in content knowledge, program delivery and safety procedures. CLIMATE CHANGE SCIENTIST: A permanent, full-time position. Pay: Salary commensurate with experience, excellent benefits, and a vibrant, fast-paced work environment.

ADVENTURE CAMP GUIDE / INSTRUCTOR: A temporary, full-time position. Pay: $440-$550 twice a month plus room and board and a minor insurance plan. Dates: May 30 – August 10, 2008.

Location: Clemson University, Adventure Camp, Pickens County, South Carolina.

Qual: BA or BS Parks and Recreation, or related field is preferred but not necessary to apply (applies to Juniors, Seniors, and College Graduates). Trip leading experience preferred. Must have the patience, understanding, flexibility, and energy to work and live with campers and staff. Must demonstrate teaching skills and the ability to implement creative “hands-on” teaching methods. Must be willing to sacrifice, adapt, and work hard as part of a team pursuing one common goal and objective.

Duties: To lead, instruct, and supervise campers (ages 12-15) in all areas of Adventure Camp Curriculum and perform duties that are required by the Camp Director.  The camp runs out of the Blue Ridge Mountain area of South Carolina.  It has direct access to thousands of acres of state and national wilderness areas.  Trips are 11 days long with four day breaks in between.  Three sessions will be expedition style with mountain bike, canoeing, and backpacking components.  One of the sessions will be broken into mini-trips which will include mountain biking, rafting, canoeing, and backpacking.  All sessions will include high and low challenge/teambuilding initiatives. Specifics: Teach all components of the Adventure Camp Curriculum (training provided). Lead students in daily program classes and activities (wake-up, meals, campfire, and rap-up). Be actively involved in all program activities, leading and participating in evening recreational and instructional times as scheduled. Assist with routine clean-up. Set-up and maintenance of site and program areas. Perform direct supervision of children while involved in classes and activities (on- and off-site). WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT INSTRUCTOR: A permanent, full-time position.

Location: Clemson University, New Horizons Family Center, Summerton, South Carolina.

Qual: Be at least 21 years of age and possesses a BA or BS degree (preferred), experience in youth care, social work and/or counseling preferred. Ability to supervise staff and oversee programming. Duties: Oversees and coordinates the day to day, food service, hospitality and maintenance functions of the programs and facilities for the Youth Learning Institute’s New Horizons program as a residential instructor at Camp Bob Cooper.  This position reports to the director of New Horizons.  Specifics: Oversees the overall development of the mothers and children at the center. Compile participant evaluations and complete necessary reports as needed by the Department of Social Services. Oversee food service and food preparation for mothers and infants;  work to improve food quality and service; monitor food service costs on a per plate basis; and coordinate training for those involved in food service and preparation. Coordinates with administrative staff to ensure timely and accurate correspondence and reporting; participates in weekly team meetings; and participate in staff orientations, trainings, and meetings. Hire, train and manage, the New Horizons instructors, house mothers and support staff, and meet challenges unique to the New Horizons programs and activities. SUMMER NATURALIST: Three (3) temporary, full-time positions. Pay: $200 daily, plus room and board. Dates: June 9 – August 15, 2008.
Location: Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center, Lanesboro, Minnesota.
Qual: 21 years of age or older. Current First Aid and CPR certifications. Experience working with kids (preferably in outdoor and/or environmental education settings). BA or BS degree in related field. Background or interest in natural history, ecology, hunting, fishing, camping, and adventure education.
Duties: Summer naturalists will teach a variety of classes, including canoeing, rock climbing, and tree tops. Groups vary in size and are primarily comprised of kids. Co-coordination of select summer camps and the supervision of campers are other major responsibilities of this position. Based upon a rotating schedule, summer naturalists will also act as an overnight liaison for groups in residence. Other responsibilities include assisting in other areas as needed by our ever growing, private, non-profit organization.

NATURE PRESERVE PATROLLER / WORKER: $4,200 for term and lodging. Dates: Mid-September to early January 2009.
Location: Eagle Valley Nature Preserve, Glen Haven, Wisconsin (southwest WI).
Qual: Ambitious, punctual, highly self-motivated individual capable of working outside in all kinds of weather; must be physically fit as much hiking in bluffs is required; good outdoor skills (tracking, stalking, wildlife observation) very helpful; some college biology coursework and/or field experience desirable. Provides a valuable opportunity for those with field biology and/or criminal justice backgrounds.
Duties: Primary responsibility is to patrol the property to deter trespass, and maintain an undisturbed preserve. Secondary duties include assisting with raptor migration counts, prairie seed collecting, eagle roost research, trail and building maintenance, and other duties as needed.
